At Alta Vista Dental Clinic in Ottawa, our dentist offers custom-fitted dental appliances to help protect your oral health and overall wellbeing.
What is a Dental Appliance?
We need to do more than simply brush and floss to maintain excellent oral health. Some of us play sports, snore, grind or clench our teeth. For these individuals, dental appliances can help preserve and protect our oral structures, along with our overall physical health and wellbeing.
At Alta Vista Dental Clinic, we offer dental appliances including mouth guards and sleep apnea devices to help protect the health of your mouth.
Snoring & Sleep Apnea Appliances
Not only can sleep disorders disrupt your sleep, they can negatively impact your overall health and wellbeing.
For patients who snore, their throat tissues relax, causing their airway to restrict and create the sound we all recognize as snoring as oxygen is forced through.
In patients with sleep apnea, their throat tissues over-relax and block the airway, forcing the brain to awaken them so they can breathe.
At Alta Vista Dental Clinic, we offer custom-fitted oral appliances to move the lower jaw and tongue muscles to open the airway. This helps facilitate oxygen flow and prevents you from waking through the night.
Custom-Fitted Mouth Guards
Custom-made mouth guards fit over your teeth to protect them from damage. Here are two types we offer:
Sports Guards
If you take a hit to the mouth while playing sports, a mouth guard acts as a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissue of your mouth to protect your smile.
Night Guards
Do you grind your teeth while you sleep? A mouth guard can help protect your teeth from damage. If jaw clenching is your issue, a mouth guard will also help keep you from clenching and alleviate pain.
